●Significance of the Working Holiday Schemes
The ROC government enters into Arrangements on a working Holiday Scheme with foreign governments in order to promote people-to-people exchanges, encourage and enhance the interaction of ROC youth with those of other countries, and increase mutual understanding. The primary intention of working holiday makers for coming to Taiwan is to holiday, but they may supplement their funds and to experience a foreign culture through incidental employment. Therefore, this scheme shall not apply to those who seek full-time jobs, to study, or to stay for long periods for other purposes. The ROC visas issued shall be marked with “WH”

●Notes for Working Holiday Visa Holders

1.Validity of Visa

The visa is valid for a period of 12 months. Visa holders may enter Taiwan from the date of issue until the date of expiry of the visa.

2.Duration of Stay

The initial duration of stay shall be 180 days, which may be extended for no more than another 180 days while the visa is still valid. Application for extensions shall be made to the local NIA's service center where the working holiday maker stays 15 days prior to the initial duration of stay expires. Visa holders shall leave Taiwan before their visa expires.

3.Entries

Working holiday makers shall be issued multiple entry visas, which allow for multiple entries to and exit from the Republic of China during the validity of the visa.

4.Activities after Entrance

-Work permit not needed

As long as in accordance with the purpose of entry, working holiday makers may work legally during their stay in the Republic of China to earn their living expenses. However, they should not work for the same employer for more than 3 months. In addition, holders of working holiday visas should not work for the entire one year of their visit. In accordance with Article 4 of “Regulations Governing the Permits for Employing Foreigners and Management”, working holiday visas issued by the ROC Embassy, Consulate and overseas missions shall be regarded as work permits. Therefore, visa holders do not need to apply for a work permit with the Council of Labour Affairs of the Executive Yuan. However, those who engage in professional or technical work shall meet the necessary qualification and laws of registration for practice required by the Republic of China. In addition, visa holders should not work for longer than the validity of the visa. -Study Time Limit

As the main purpose of working holiday makers is not full-time studies, applicants cannot undertake any formal courses other than Chinese language courses in Taiwan of no more than 3 months duration. ●Qualifications for Visa Applicants
In accordance with the Working Holiday Scheme Arrangements signed between the Republic of China and other countries, citizens of contracting countries who have meet the following qualifications may apply for working holiday visas:

1.Nationality: Applicants shall be citizens of contracting countries and shall have not been a previous recipient of an ROC working holiday visa.

2.Purpose: Applicants must prove to the ROC Embassy, Consulate and overseas missions issuing the visas that their primary intention is to holiday in the ROC, with employment being an incidental rather than a primary reason for the visit and will leave the ROC before the visa expires.

3.Age: The age of applicants shall between 18 and 30 years, both inclusive, at the time of application.
Family members of working holiday visa holders, including spouse and children, shall not apply for visas as dependents to come along.

4.Validity of passport: When submitting an application, the applicants' passport should be valid for more than 12 months upon planned arrival in the ROC.

5.Valid flight ticket: Applicants must hold a round trip flight ticket or have financial proof of the capability to purchase it.

6.Living expenses: Applicants shall be required to have at least NT$ 100,000 or an equivalent amount of foreign currency as their living expenses during their stay in the ROC.

7.Medical insurance: Applicants shall have full medical and hospitalization insurance during their stay in the ROC.

●Required documents

1.Visa Application form for Working Holiday Makers (Applicants shall fill and sign the form);

2.Passport valid for more than one year planned in the ROC;

3.Two 2-inch colour photos taken within 6 months;

4.Round trip flight ticket or proof of the capability to purchase it;

5.Financial proof of at least NT$ 100,000 of living expenses (such as travellers check or bank statement);

6.Proof of full medical and hospitalization insurance during the stay in the ROC;

7.Visa fee:NT$2,400(US$72);

8.Health certificate is required for Australian applicants according to the Working Holiday Scheme Arrangements signed between ROC and Austrlia;

9.Other required documents as required.

●Applicable country
New Zealand (Effective from June 1,2004);Australia(Effective from November 1 ,2004)

●Notes:

1.Place of application: Applicants shall apply for visas at the ROC Embassy, Consulate and overseas missions in the applicable country.

2.Delivery of documents: Documents shall be sent by applicants themselves, or by a commissioned a proxy or travel agency, but visa officers may request and interview with the applicants.

3.Regulations after entry: Working holiday visa holders shall not apply for changing to other types of visas based on other reasons once they enter the ROC.

4.Visa application refusal: In accordance with Article 12 of the Statute Governing Issuance of ROC Visas on Foreign Passports, the ROC government has the right to deny the issue of a visa without disclosing the reason. In addition, in accordance with Article 7 of Standard Fee Rates for ROC visas on Foreign Passports, “if visa applications are denied, the application fees charged are not refundable.”

●Eligible Persons
Foreign nationals, who hold ordinary passports or other legal travel documents, who intend to stay in the Republic of China for more than six months for the purpose of joining family, pursuing studies, accepting employment, making investments, doing missionary work, or engaging in other permissible activities.

●Requirements
1.A passport valid for at least six months;

2.A duly completed application form with two 2x2 inch color photos taken within from the last six months.

3.Supporting documents or official letters of approval from a competent authority of the ROC; and

4.Other relevant documents.

5.Health Certificate if applicable

●Visa Validity
A Resident Visa is valid for three months.

●Duration of stay Resident Visa holders are required to apply for the Alien Resident Certificate and Re-entry Permit at local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days starting from the next day of their arrival. They may stay in the ROC as long as the Alien Resident Certificate remains valid.

●Fee
1.NT$ 2,200(US$ 66)for single entry; NT$4,400(US$132 )for multiple entry.

2.The Visa application fee is NT$4,323(US$131) for US citizens.

3.An additional handling charge of NT$800 shall apply to applications made in the ROC by visitor visa holders applying for change or replacement of visitor visa or resident visa.

4.For foreign nationals from the countries with which the ROC has entered into reciprocal agreements, the Resident Visa is issued gratis.

●Remarks
If foreign nationals who have entered the ROC with Visitor Visas are subsequently legally employed in the ROC, they may make the necessary change from their Visitor Visa into a Resident Visa in this country directly.
The above regulations do not apply to blue collar workers or those who enter the ROC via the visa exemption program or landing visa.

●Fee
1.For foreign nationals from the countries with which the ROC has entered into reciprocal visa agreements, the visa is issued gratis.

2.For other foreign nationals, the visa fees are:
‧single entry: NT$ 1,200 (US$ 36)
‧multiple entries: NT$ 2,400 (US$ 72)
‧The Visa application fee is NT$ 3,600($US100) for US citizens

●Remarks
Visitor Visa holders who are permitted to stay in Taiwan for sixty or ninety days and whose visas bear no such remark as "no extension will be granted" may apply at the local NIA's service center for a maximum of 120 or 90 days of extensions.

●R.O.C. visas are divided into four categories according to the purpose of entry and status of the applicants:

1.Visitor Visas: Short-term visas, with a duration of stay of less than 180 days.
2.Resident Visas: Long-term visas, with a duration of stay of over 180 days.
3.Diplomatic Visas.
4.Courtesy Visas.

●Duration of Stay:
The duration a foreign national is allowed to stay in the R.O.C. after the he/she uses the visa is calculated from 12: 00 a .m. of the day following entry into the country.

1.Duration of stay usually can be divided into 14-day, 30-day or 60-day categories. If a foreign national wishes to extend his/her duration of stay in the R.O.C, and he/she holds a 60-day visa with no restrictions, he/his should check and bring related documents to apply for an extension at the local service center of National Immigration Agency before the duration of stay expires.

2.Resident visas without additional ed duration of stay: Applicants should apply for an Alien Resident Certification (A.R.C.) at he local service center of National Immigration Agency within 15 days of entry or of being issued a resident visa. The duration of stay should be in accordance with the time stated on down in the Alien Resident Certificate hold by the foreign national . Should a foreign national holding an A.R.C.A wish to exit and re-enter the country within the period of validity, he/she should apply for a re-entry permit along with the an A.R.C.

Divided into two groups: single and multiple

●Visa numbers:
Visitors should write their visa fill in the numbers in this section of the E/D card.

●Remarks:
This refers to the code for the purpose of the applicants travel to the R.O.C. or the status of the visa applicant. A foreign national holding an A.R.C. should engage only in those activities which are in accordance with the permitted purpose of his/her visit.
